Affordable Makeup Brushes

Affordable Makeup Brushes

Eyeshadow Brush | Eyeshadow Palette | Foundation Brush | Foundation | Blush Brush | Blush My daily makeup routine is simple and in total takes me about 20 minutes or less. I use the same products in the same order, every day. However, I realized recently that my foundation was going on somewhat streaky. After looking more closely during the application process, I realized that it was probably because I was using an old makeup brush. When I met with Lindsey of Traveling Chic, she used a circular brush on my foundation so I decided to try something similar. I found this small head, round brush from Mikasa and was pleasantly surprised by the price point. Makeup brushes can be so pricey, but I found their selection to be reasonable. After testing the brushes for a few weeks, I wanted to share them with you since I’ve enjoyed using the three I selected. In placing the order, I decided to also order the angled blush brush (because I’ve been using a mini one for a while now) and a new eyeshadow brush (because you can never have too many of those). If you need a makeup brush refresh, visit Mikasa […]

Two Products for Low Maintenance Hair

Two Products for Low Maintenance Hair

Batiste Dry Shampoo | L’oreal Next Day Hair Perhaps instead of “low maintenance” I should simply say the lazy girls guide to hair! Despite my best efforts to have voluminous, teased, perfectly curled hair, it just doesn’t work with the current climate in which we live. In Mississippi, I could curl my hair and it would stay for HOURS… I am talking hours! Best thing ever. This was quite opposite from living in Denver where I couldn’t get my hair to hold anything. Fast forward to moving to Florida’s panhandle and the moisture coming off the gulf water makes my hair fall flatter than flat. Except of course it rains in which my hair just frizzes up! So to combat all of this, I’ve developed a routine that works for me and in most cases, my hair looks better on the second day which is always good news! The two products I use weekly to keep my hair in check are L’oreal Next Day Hair and Batiste Dry Shampoo! For the longest time, I washed my hair every single day. This became exhausting and I read that it’s actually not that great for your hair. So, I now wash every other […]

Let’s Get Local: Traveling Chic

Let's Get Local Traveling Chic

I will always love weddings! Who says that after you get married you’re not allowed to still obsess over the upcoming trends? Certainly not me! Luckily, my cousin is getting married this year so I get to live vicariously through her as she plans for her big day. Due to this, when the opportunity arose for me and Lindsey of Traveling Chic to collaborate, I jumped at the opportunity. Lindsey is a local business owner and the one woman show behind Traveling Chic, a luxury in-home beauty provider. Not only does she specialize in hair and makeup for weddings she also provides her glam services for special events and even worked at the CMA’s last year! If that isn’t just about the coolest thing than I don’t know what is! She took some time out of her busy schedule to give me a little makeover featuring the 2017 wedding hair and makeup trends (images below!) and I am obsessed. Here’s what Lindsey had to say about her ever growing business, Traveling Chic: C: What inspired you to start Traveling Chic? L: I was inspired by the mere thought of going back to work. I wanted to do what I loved even […]

Beauty Sleep with Violet Hour Fashion

Violet Hour Fashion

Willie Chemise (c/o Violet Hour Fashion) After a long day at work the first thing I do is wash my face and change into my sleepwear. I love nothing more than to wash off the day before settling in for the evening. I’ve never been one to skip on sleep and honestly can’t remember a time that I’ve ever stayed up all night. Since I am such a lover of my beauty sleep, I want to share with you how I go about relaxing before bedtime. It’s clear that in the world of constantly refreshing social media feeds, bright iPhone and iPad screens, and general stressors throughout the day can really temper with our sleep. I find that by unplugging and sticking to a nightly routine, I am able to quiet all that noise and sleep soundly. Here’s how I prepare for a good nights sleep: Drink Tea: At about 8:30pm every night, I turn to my tea kettle and prepare some hot water. I enjoy a cup of tea while I finish watching a tv show. I feel comforted and warm while drinking my tea snuggled under a blanket! I try to always drink tea to wind down as opposed to wine […]

But the bare basics of my makeup routine remain the same and the methods to apply remain unchanged. Here’s what I love, want to try and some last minute gifts for a beauty guru in your life. At-Home Eyebrow Maintenance

eyebrow-post_2_resize

Anastasia Eyebrow Kit | Eyebrow Brush | Tweezers We’ve all been there… either we over tweeze our own brows or someone else does it for us with wax or thread. And when it happens your heart drops because if you’re anything like me, you’ve spent time growing those brows out so that they will be perfectly shaped after the appointment. And after all that, it’s time to start the process over again which is 6 to 8 weeks of explaining to people to, “ignore my brows, I am growing them out.” There have been just a handful of times that I can recall my brows being totally destroyed and pencil-thin afterward. One of these times was in high school at a nail salon and most recently, a few months ago at a local threading shop. In both occasions, the root of the problem was that I waited until the last minute to have them done so I just went to anyone! Despite my best efforts to brief the brow tech on what I wanted, I knew the minute she started threading from the top of my brow, it was all over. They were thin, not even and honestly, although other people “won’t notice” (that’s what Mack told […]
