How to Mix Investment and Budget-Friendly Items

Pink Lace Dress for Fall

Pink Lace Dress | Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 | Stuart Weitzman Heels | Sunglasses (similar) As a girl on a budget, I understand the importance of mixing investment pieces with more budget- friendly options. I go into great details regarding our budget and the process to complete it every month, here. If you have no idea where to start on a monthly budget, it’s a must read. That’s the best starting point! With a budget in mind, it’s important to balance key pieces that will last a lifetime with fun, frilly budget-friendly items to complete the look. For me, investment pieces include a great neutral bag, a simple pair of nude heels and jeans that fit properly (for me, that is strictly AG Jeans). With one of these three items at play (or all three), the rest of the outfit is easy to build around the investment piece/s. For instance, I selected two of my key pieces and paired them with a lace dress that’s under $35 above. Although investment pieces are highly dependent on personal preference, here are a few points to consider when you’re wondering if you should splurge or save: Longevity of the item: When selecting investment pieces, you want to always lean […]

Mixing Seasons

Mixing Seasons

Waffle Stitch Sweater | Jean Shorts | Clutch (similar) | Sunglasses (similar) | Peep Toe Booties Pumpkins made their debut at local grocery stores this weekend and it was pushing 90 degrees here on Florida’s Emerald Coast! I am craving fall but thankful that I can still go to the beach, walk the dogs without a jacket and continue my Sunday afternoon bike rides well into September. It’s all about balance! I picked up this waffle stitch sweater during the Nordstrom Sale and wanted to work it into my weekend wardrobe. I did just that by pairing fall staples like this tank sweater and peep toe booties with jean shorts and a neutral clutch to satisfy my need for fall in the midst of hot and humid temperatures. I am not going to lie, I was still a little warm but I think it was mostly because we were walking around town- I’ll just tell myself that! How do you incorporate fall textures and tones when the temperatures don’t quite reflect fall? I hope you have a great week! Thanks for starting your week with me!

White Ruffle Sweater with StyleWe

White Ruffle Sweater with StyleWe

White Ruffle Sweater (sold out, similar) | Black Skinny Jeans | Red Mules (similar) | Leopard Clutch (similar) | Sunglasses (similar) Give this girl a pair of red mules, statement sleeves {and earrings} and I am weekend ready! If I had to pick one emoji to describe how I feel every Friday, it would be the flamenco dancer in the red dress… and this is my version of that. This white ruffle sweater from StyleWe is the perfect structured sweater (I am so sad it’s sold out but will continue to check if they restock). Most of the sweaters in my closet are oversized, super comfortable and some even have a turtleneck. I don’t have anything in my closet like this sweater but I am obsessed. I almost think this sweater would be overwhelming if it were any color except white. The off-the-shoulder detail paired with the tiered ruffle sleeves is balanced by the fresh natural tone. Styled here with FUN accessories: tassel earrings, a leopard clutch and red mules, this outfit is the ideal get up for a girl’s night out as temperatures begin to drop. What are your plans this weekend? My Dad is in town so we will probably spend most of our […]

Ruffle Little Black Dress

Ruffle LBD

Ruffle Little Black Dress | Crossbody | Leopard Heels (similar) | Sunglasses (similar) In follow up to Friday’s post, our area was virtually unaffected by Hurricane Irma’s path. I did go to Mississippi for the weekend just to be on the safe side and understand how lucky we are that she didn’t turn just a little more west. With that in mind, so many people in my home state are realizing her devastation as they return home and for them, I am praying! We will help however and whenever we can with relief efforts because we love to call Florida home. It’s truly my favorite place we’ve ever lived. After my most recent trip to HomeGoods, I banned myself for a few weeks! BUT during my last visit, my heart was so happy because not only did they have Halloween decor, they also had Thanksgiving tablescapes, pumpkin everything and my personal favorite, fall candles. With sweater-weather on my mind, I can’t help but get excited for the changing seasons and holidays that are on the horizon. This ruffle little black dress from Target is perfect for work days, holiday parties and more as the seasons greet us with cooler temperatures! It’s no surprise […]

Emerald Green Dress with StyleWe

Emerald Green Dress with StyleWe

Emerald Green Dress | Clutch | Shoes | Sunglasses (similar) | Earrings (similar) My blog has always been a positive outlet for me so in the waiting game to see which way Hurricane Irma will turn {without question}, I decided to do what I know best and stay on my normal blog schedule. I don’t do this to ignore reality and the potential seriousness of this storm because I know it’s projected to devastate. But rather than focus on that, I will look to the good, trust, and know that as long as we’re safe than we already have all we need.  Since there’s no seamless way to transition from Hurricane Irma to fashion, we’re just going to jump right in! Anyone who has followed along here for awhile knows that I am all about versatile items that transition well. I shared this fringe sweater dress recently that will transition well into “sweater weather” on the coast.  I feel the same about this emerald green dress from StyleWe– paired now with suede heels and later with black tights and OTK boots for a holiday party! The cut and material of this dress falls in such a pretty manner. Those features mixed with the bold color […]

Frayed Hem Jeans for Labor Day

Exaggerated Frayed Hem Jeans

Button Up & Jeans: Blush Destin | Sunglasses (similar) | Crossbody | Red Mules (similar) Is it too soon to be thinking about Labor Day weekend? Probably. But I am going for it anyway! The official end to summer is almost here and although the temperatures would suggest otherwise in Florida, we’ve had a few cool mornings this week that have been extremely refreshing. As summer bids its farewell I wanted to suggest some ways to spend the precious three day weekend: Staycation– Taking a vacation can be more trouble than it’s worth, especially when it’s just over a three day period. Opt to stay local instead and try to see your hometown through the eyes of someone who is visiting. I am working on a new post for you all about the area where we live and I plan to do just that! Home Touch-Ups– I am not kidding when I tell you that three of the four lightbulbs in our kitchen have been burnt out for MONTHS. Embarrassing I know. I plan to utilize some extra time I have this weekend to complete some much needed home touch-ups if you will- like changing light bulbs. I will probably do a Home Goods run […]

Fringe Sweater Dress

Sweater Dress Now and Later

Sweater Fringe Dress (sold out) | Clutch (almost identical) | Wedges | Sunglasses | Earrings (similar) Something about this week (I am looking at you, solar eclipse) made this week feel so long! Needless to say, I am so glad it’s Friday and I am ready to wind down this weekend. One of my best friends from college is on a family vacation just down the street from us and I am looking forward to catching up with her! Anyways, I picked up this fringe sweater dress a few weeks ago from Fuss, a local boutique in Watercolor, and was immediately drawn to the fringe hem. The knit material, although still light, gives the illusion of a sweater dress deeming it perfect as we transition seasons. Living in Florida, the “fall” won’t hit for a few more months. While everyone else is embracing sweater weather, I will opt for this dress instead and enjoy the off-season to the fullest here on the coast. How do you prepare for sweater weather? I hope you have a great weekend. Thank you so much for reading today.

Workwear Staples Under $100

Workwear Staples Under $100

Midi Dress | Blazer | Lace Blouse | Black Dress | Grey Blouse | Tote Bag | Block Heels | Flats | Tailored Pants Workwear is heavily dependent on company culture! I’ve worked in a number of different settings, each requiring it’s own specific wardrobe. However, I believe there are a few key pieces that any working girl needs on hand in her closet! For me, those universal items include a midi dress, a conservative black dress, functional blazer, dainty lace blouse easy for layering, long sleeve grey blouse (because offices are always cold!), go-to pair of black tailored pants, block heels, flats and a carry-all tote bag. I believe with these key items, dressing for the workday is made easy depending on what the day holds. For a day at the office, I usually opt for a dress and flats as that’s most comfortable for me wear all day. If we are out of the office, I try to dress up a little more pulling together my black pants, a blouse layered under a blazer and a pair of block heels. When in doubt, dress to impress! These staples (all under $100) present a professional appearance in that they’re conservative, feature […]

Flower Print Cold-Shoulder Dress

Flower Print Cold Shoulder Dress

Flower Print Cold-Shoulder Dress | Wedges | Crossbody | Sunglasses Life on the Emerald Coast is returning to normal now that school is back in session. Traffic has died down, the rental units around our home have gone dark and there are parking spots again. I am in my happy place once again! With school back in session.. the college football season is near! Being that we still live in SEC country, the excitement is building! I am not a huge football fan by any means. I can’t tell you who the players are or what’s going on in the game but I do know how to tailgate. And for those of you familiar with Ole Miss and The Grove you know that we never lose a party. And thank goodness for that because there’s some hearsay that the Rebs may need a little help this year. But here’s to hoping! Anyways, when I was at Ole Miss my Dad would get beyond irritated with me because I would never go to the football stadium to watch the game. Instead, I would camp out in The Grove with my sorority sisters and just enjoy every Saturday down South. With The Grove clearly […]

Straw Kitten Clutch

Straw Kitten Clutch

Blouse (sold out, similar) | Jeans | Wedges | Sunglasses | Kitten Clutch I am the first to say that I am a dog person! So much so that I feel like I offend people with children sometimes when I talk about my dogs like they’re people (but they are so…). Anyone who knows me or who has followed along here for awhile knows that Rebel and Tiger, named after Ole Miss and LSU, are my tiny doggies that think they’re kings of the castle. Rebel is a morkie (maltese and yorkie) and Tiger is a full yorkie, well at least we think he is haha. They are very sweet boys and both have birthdays this month! I may just have to do a post about them and what products I love for them. We shall see! Anyways, with the summer season on it’s way out, I am trying to work warm weather elements such as this straw clutch into my casual outfits before the temps cool down. Luckily, that doesn’t happen until about October so I’ve still got some time. I got this precious clutch from Blush Destin and she has just a few left! Until someone creates a puppy […]
