Good morning from New York City! I am here with my mom and so happy for a girls weekend. Even better, we’re in town for some of my cousin’s pre-wedding festivities. I am excited to spend time in the city AND get to see family! It’s a win-win for sure. We have a busy day planned so be sure to keep up with me on Instagram to get a more behind-the-scenes look at my trip!

My cousin’s wedding is in July and with less than a month to plan, I decided I better get my rehearsal dinner outfit together. She’s having a clam bake rehearsal dinner before her Rhode Island based wedding. Of course, attire is completely event dependent but based on the invitation, you can usually sense the overall vibe of the rehearsal dinner. Regardless, here are some tips I compiled to help you determine what to wear to a summer rehearsal dinner:

  • Select Airy Fabric– Summer weddings are the best but with temperatures at their highest, it can get warm! Plan accordingly and opt for a light dress with airy fabric. As cocktails and hors d’oeuvres are usually enjoyed on the patio, deck and al fresco, it’s best to wear something lose fitting to maintain comfortability. I like a simple, bright shift dress.
  • Have a Little Fun- In my experience, a rehearsal dinner is casual, family-oriented and offers the opportunity to relax with the bride and groom! Since my cousin’s rehearsal dinner is clam bake themed, I plan to opt for a nautical color scheme and break out my gingham mini-bucket bag for the first time! I feel like this is clam bake appropriate, however I’ve never been to one! So, if anyone is reading this and thinking, “she’s totally off!” Let a sister know, okay?
  • Never Wear White- I may be old fashioned but there’s a whole rainbow of colors to wear before you select that white dress to wear to someone else’s rehearsal dinner. Unless of course, YOU’RE THE BRIDE. Then it’s totally okay. If you’re not, don’t do it.

With these tips in mind, your wedding weekend wardrobe is covered for at least one of the festivities! Thank you so much for reading today. Have a great weekend!
