I never realize how busy our neighborhood is during the summer until school is back in session. The parking is empty, the pool is quiet and the sidewalks are clear of bikers, runners and families. Summer is officially over here on the Emerald Coast- but the weather won’t reflect it for several more weeks! I am often caught between the anticipation of fall (Mack and I are so excited for football season) while we still have the luxury of enjoying the beach! So, where does that leave my wardrobe- other than confused? Let’s chat about three ways to mix summer and fall pieces as we patiently wait on cooler weather here on the coast.
How To Mix Summer and Fall Pieces
Utilize Summer Staples
How cute is this eyelet top? It’s under $40 and so fun! It features a slight cropped length, cold shoulder detail and ruffled statement sleeves. This top is definitely a statement on its own but is balanced by the cotton material and eyelet cutouts. Eyelet is a summer staple but mixes well with a simple pair of skinnies and a few fall must-haves. This top transitions perfectly as we enter the grey area of 85 degrees but all the fall feels.
Always Opt for Skinny Jeans
A telltale sign of summer’s exit is the ability to wear jeans again. There is NO WAY I can sport jeans in the heat of the summer… I really think my legs would melt. But as September and October slowly creep their way in, cooler evening temperatures join. With a slight cool down, the easiest way to welcome fall is to pull out (or in my case dust off) your favorite pair of skinny jeans to ready them for the fall months.
Welcome Fall Accessories
As you work around your current summer wardrobe, the end of August and beginning of September is a good time to integrate hints of fall into your round up. For me, that includes my calf-hair clutch (which, let’s be honest… I probably utilize it too much) and a new pair of grey mules. When paired with my eyelet top and skinny jeans, these fall accessories really round out the look. But each piece, when styled separately, can still serve it’s purpose. For example, on a HOT day, these mules would still be super cute with jean shorts and a t-shirt. We’re all about multi-purpose pieces over here!
So, as the rest of the country gets ready to sip those pumpkin spice lattes, I will be here… still trying to incorporate my summer wardrobe with my new fall favs! It works though, don’t you think?
I hope you have a great Thursday. Thanks for reading today!
