Let's Get Local: The Dressing Room Boutique

If I could dream up my perfect closet, it would very closely resemble The Dressing Room Boutique’s storefront! It’s so fresh, organized and filled with light (my favorite!). Now give me all the clothes at The Dressing Room Boutique and I’d be the happiest girl in the world. For me, I usually walk into a boutique, browse around and find one or two things I love. This is not the case for me whenever I enter The Dressing Room Boutique! Rather, I find armfuls of things to try on, at which point I have to make the worst decision of WHAT to pick, because I truly love it all. As you can see from the images above, this store embodies my style almost to a T. There are classic pieces, beautiful colors but a mix of trendy must-haves that complement and balance any good wardrobe. After shopping with owner, Abbie Reeves for the past few months, and even collaborating on this Valentine’s Day post, I knew I had to share the woman behind this stunning storefront. After chatting with Abbie, it was so apparent to me how passionate she is about her family, her business and supporting other locally-owned businesses. Here’s a look inside our candid conversation:

1. What inspired you to open The Dressing Room Boutique?
A: Since as far back as I can remember, I’ve been three things- a creative, a girl boss (thank you, Sophia Amoruso, for giving us such an empowering label) and a budding entrepreneur. Fashion and design were just my natural go-to. I often find myself losing sleep at night because as soon as I shut my eyes and begin to drift off, my mind’s eye will create a cute top or dress that I just have to get up and jot down!

2. What does your typical day to day look like?
A: CHAOS! Kiss my hubby goodbye (then catch a few more moments of shut eye), get up and get Baby G and myself ready for the day and then open the store. Each day is an amalgamation of the following; scouring line sheets and lookbooks for long time customers looking for specific dresses for events, ordering new inventory for the store, meeting with my publicist, Lauren Gall, planning events, marketing my business, breastfeeding and playing with Baby G (who comes to work with me) and of course, helping my customers find the perfect outfits! I love it!

3. What are three pieces that every woman must-have in her closet?
A: First and foremost, a well-fitting bra! I don’t know what I’d do without Darcy at Sirens at the Beach Lingerie & Swim. She has the magic touch, and her products are pure quality! Secondly, I recommend a nice blazer. Never underestimate the transformative power of a good blazer! It can take any outfit to a new level! Lastly, I’d say well-fitting denim- specifically flares. I’m asked almost daily if flares are “back,” and I think that is because people confuse flares and bell bottoms. Flares never go out of style! When done right, they elongate and even out a woman’s figure beautifully!

(Side note: Sirens at the Beach is located right next door to The Dressing Room Boutique- how perfect, right?)

4. Who do you look to for style inspiration/ how do you go about selecting what you’ll carry in your boutique?
A: I’m definitely a “less is more” type of girl, so I tend to opt for basics, staples and power pieces to make an outfit. I love Olivia Palermo, Lauren Conrad and Bethenny Frankel in terms of their styles!! When ordering for the store, I try to buy each piece with a complete ensemble in mind. For example, I hate finding an amazing skirt somewhere and letting it linger in the closet forever because I never found the perfect top to go with it. When I order inventory, I try to incorporate a good mix of interchangeable pieces so that you can always find the right top for your denim or skirt.

5. Describe your personal style in 15 words or less.
A: Easy, classic, and functional.

7. What’s your favorite part about living on Florida’s Emerald Coast?
A: The sense of freedom that only a coastal area can bestow! I’ve lived all over the US, but my heart lives here. There was always a sense of entrapment, for lack of better word, in landlocked areas for me. Something about the coast just opens the mind and spirit to free-flowing ideas  and creativity.

8. Words of advice for other aspiring boutique owners, bloggers or girl bosses?
A: Embrace it! Never apologize for your dreams, and never pass up an opportunity to be of service. We women are powerful forces, and we have the opportunity to make a truly meaningful impact on the world around us when we band together and empower one another.

9. If you were cast on the Real Housewives, what would your intro tagline be?
A: I’m a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants gypsy momma bird. The road is my sanctuary, the ocean is my playground and the world is my oyster!

Whether near of far (Abbie will ship anywhere!), you have to check out all that The Dressing Room Boutique has to offer.
