As the “bomb cyclone” (who was in charge of naming this?!) sweeps the east coast, it’s clear that we all need to bundle up! Here in Florida, we had freezing temperatures at the beginning of the week but we’re on the up and up now and I am thankful. However, I know that many of you, millions in fact, are being affected by this storm’s bone-chilling temperatures so take advantage of the weekend to stay inside, cuddle up and pretend like the holiday season hasn’t already come and gone!
Over Christmas we went to Colorado to visit my family! We were lucky to have a white Christmas and also took advantage of all the winter feels- from ice skating to visiting an ice castle- we got our fill of snow and were ready to get back to our white sandy beaches instead. While in town we decided to take a day trip up to the Broadmoor to see the Christmas decor and indulge in some hot drinks and baked goods (#winterbod in full effect).
I should have packed lighter than I did (don’t tell Mack) because this outfit is essentially what I wore the entire time. In most cases I was warm enough thanks to the layers I wore which consisted mostly of heavy sweaters. Dressing during the winter can be tricky because you want to express your sense of style while keeping warm. Here are my tips for gathering your winter weather essentials (because for us in Florida, winter is only just now starting):
- Pick a Winter Coat that’s You: Mack and I have been on a organizing kick lately. With that fact in mind, I have to be honest and say that I’ve Poshmarked almost all my winter coats that I had while living in Denver and this was the heaviest jacket I had in my closet. Due to the fact that I didn’t want to wear my ski jacket the entire time, I improvised and actually managed to keep quite warm in the jacket shown above. My two recommendations for selecting a coat include; try to find one in line with your style and get one that’s long. The added length will help keep you bundled and defer the gusty winds. Finally, make sure it’s warm but doesn’t make you feel like the little brother in A Christmas Story! Here are a few suggestions:
- Invest in OTK Boots: I swear these boots make my legs HOT! Growing up in Colorado, I learned very quickly that if your feet are cold- your whole body is freezing. Keeping your feet and legs warm is half the battle. I certainly won that battle over the break in these boots. The only time my feet got cold was while trudging through snow in an ice castle (really, it was completely formed of icicles) and that’s only because they we’re underneath about a foot of snow. A good pair of warm (& very tall) boots will take you through winter! Here are two almost identical options:
- Rally the Cutest Winter Accessories: Much like keeping your toes warm, the same goes for your head! We lose most of our body heat through the top of our heat so put a cap on it and you’ll stay much warmer. When I am in cold temps I don’t leave the house without a hat and good pair of gloves! Poor Mack had to buy a pair when we went to the mountains because his hands were frozen. Luckily, really cute winter accessories are easy to come by! Here are a few of my favorites:
As this storm passes I hope everyone stays safe and warm! Wishing you a weekend of binge watching The Crown, hot chocolate and all the sweet treats to keep you warm and cozy.
