Winter Packing List

Cold Weather Packing List

It’s the happiest time of the year! And from what I saw on Instagram over the weekend, many people got into the Christmas spirit- putting up decor, sipping hot chocolate and viewing Christmas lights throughout the neighborhood. Although our tree has been up for a few weeks, I picked up these mini-stockings for our family (since we don’t have a mantle), and had Christmas candles burning all weekend long. I am obsessed with the Christmas season and love the reminder and acknowledgment each year that our savior was born!

Since we’ve only  been in Florida for about a year now… Christmas morning is still very much associated with snow for me! Last year, it was chilly on Christmas Day here in Florida but nothing like what I am used to. As I continue to adjust to my snow-less Christmas (unless I count the white sand), I thought I’d put together a packing list for those of you traveling to a cold destination this holiday season. As a former Colorado girl, I’ve had my fair share of below freezing temperatures, days spent skiing and have even experienced a blizzard or two haha! Here’s what you’ll need to brave the cold:

Cold-Weather Accessories

I always carry a large purse when I am home in Colorado to tote around my hat, gloves and a scarf! I learned very early that wearing a hat is a literal lifesaver in cold temperatures, especially when there is wind. This pom pom version shown above is my favorite but a few years old, so I linked some similar options below, a cute leopard scarf and some gloves. I always borrow my Mom’s gloves because I inevitably always leave mine somewhere!

Neutrals to Layer

Layering is key- whether going out for a day of shopping or skiing the slopes. I usually start with something light like a striped tank or a solid mock neck. From there I usually add my jean jacket or a thick sweater and top it off with a heavy coat! I like to layer with my jean jacket when I am running errands because I feel like nothing can get through denim. For a day of skiing however, I never layer with denim because if it gets wet… you’re wet all day and COLD. For skiing, I opt for my Patagonia fleece under my ski jacket. No matter how many layers you prefer, I always make sure to pack neutrals that can be easily mixed and matched.

I always keep it simple and pair my layered neutrals with jeans or lined leggings. I bring a few pairs of each with me when I go home (usually a pair of skinnies and boyfriends) and reserve leggings for long sweaters or days of lounging.

Keep Your Toes Warm

When my parents used to take my brother and I skiing when we were little, my Dad would always say, “If your feet are cold, your whole body is cold.” This is so true! Whenever it’s cold outside, I usually pair heavy socks (my Smartwool socks are my favorite) with a pair of block heel booties or flat booties. If I am going skiing I ALWAYS wear my black Uggs to change into after a day on the slopes. They are so comfy and warm to throw on before heading to the lodge for hot chocolate.

Cheeky Must-Haves

The hardest part about dressing for cold weather is the fact that I don’t always feel cute. In all my bundled layers, I oftentimes feel like the little brother in A Christmas Story. I found these cute winter weather extras to combat that feeling this year! (These also make great last minute gifts for your sister or bestie!)

I do plan to travel to Colorado for Christmas this year so I may just get my white Christmas after all! I am looking forward to visiting my favorite local spots that make home feel like home, skiing with my brother and seeing the beautiful mountains (I always forget how pretty they are until I see them again). When you’re traveling to a cold destination, what do you pack? Let me know in the comments below!

Thanks so much for reading today! Have a great week!
