I started my Let’s Get Local series last month and am so excited to continue it this month with none other than Lauren of Folk House Creative Co. She’s my gal pal behind the camera and we have so much fun together each month when we shoot my outfits for #lmrsp. If I am being honest with you all, I started these outfit posts with my Dad as my photographer (how sweet, I know!). After Mack and I moved however, I realized his schedule was far to demanding for me to try and convert him into an Instagram Husband. This meant that for my blog to continue, I needed some help. I found Lauren on Instagram (@folkhousecreativeco) and after weeks of subtle stalking (don’t worry- she’s aware of this haha), I had to schedule a meeting with her. I am so glad I did! She takes amazing photos and I am thankful to work with her on a monthly basis. After our most recent shoot, I sat down with Lauren and did a little q&a so you all could get to know her better. Here’s what she had to say:
C: What inspired you to start Folk House Creative Co.?
L: I was inspired to start Folk House after I got married. I wanted to relive the celebration of love over and over again.
C. What is your favorite thing about living and working on the Emerald Coast?
L: My absolute favorite thing about living on the Emerald Coast is the small business/creative community.
C: What does a day in the life of Folk House Creative Co. look like?
L: Most days are not as glamorous as one would think– coffee, emails, editing, coffee, social media scheduling, bookkeeping. However, there are days where I get out from behind my desk and capture such a tender and precious moments in a couple’s life. To this day, I still have to pinch myself over these moments.
C: Your instagram feed is insanely beautiful. How do you stay inspired to share your day-to-day?
L: Thank you so much. I try to find it in the moments that often are overlooked. I’ll find it in a good book, a morning walk, my prayer time, or a sweet moment shared with a friend–I like to look for inspiration in the smallest of moments.
C: Describe your personal photography aesthetic in 15 words or less.
L: I can do it in three words: Modern, romantic, and creative.
C: What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
L: Hands down, Toasted Coconut from Kilwin’s. It’s in my fridge at all times— for emergencies, ya know?!
C. If you’re telling people about where to go when they visit the Emerald Coast- which places do you include?
L: There are SO many amazing places along the Emerald Coast! My top go-to places are Bud & Alley’s in Seaside and Wine Bar in Watercolor.
C: Do you have a dream location that you’d like to travel to? If so, why that location in particular?
L: My dream travel location is New Zealand. It just seems so quaint & enchanting—I just would love to get lost there, for like…a really long time.
C: Words of advice for other local photographers, creatives and beyond?
L: We don’t always know what we are doing all the time. Take a deep breath and fake it until you make it.
C: If you were cast on the Real Housewives, what would your intro tagline be?
L: Over the past six months this has been my families mantra: “Invest in experiences not possessions—possessions fade away, but experiences shape your life.”
Lauren is a modern, lifestyle wedding and portrait photographer and is so talented! I love not only the work she completes for me but adore seeing all the couples and family photos she shoots weekly. So thankful for her!
| Edit: Hi all! I wanted to mention that Lauren’s headshot was completed by Fantasia Lyons of Little Miss Creative. She’s another amazing local photographer and Lauren’s great friend. |
