I will always love weddings! Who says that after you get married you’re not allowed to still obsess over the upcoming trends? Certainly not me! Luckily, my cousin is getting married this year so I get to live vicariously through her as she plans for her big day. Due to this, when the opportunity arose for me and Lindsey of Traveling Chic to collaborate, I jumped at the opportunity. Lindsey is a local business owner and the one woman show behind Traveling Chic, a luxury in-home beauty provider. Not only does she specialize in hair and makeup for weddings she also provides her glam services for special events and even worked at the CMA’s last year! If that isn’t just about the coolest thing than I don’t know what is! She took some time out of her busy schedule to give me a little makeover featuring the 2017 wedding hair and makeup trends (images below!) and I am obsessed. Here’s what Lindsey had to say about her ever growing business, Traveling Chic:
C: What inspired you to start Traveling Chic?
L: I was inspired by the mere thought of going back to work. I wanted to do what I loved even if it was once a month. I did not want to work in a salon nor work for someone else. My dream has always been to own my business and shape and mold it into my own brand.
C: What does a day in the life of Traveling Chic look like during the hustle and bustle of wedding season?
L: I am up early and starting wedding looks as early as 6:30 am. I am on my feet all day long and it’s very fast paced. For me, time management is key. (Lugging around my makeup kits isn’t easy either.)
C: What’s your favorite part about working with brides on the Emerald Coast?
L: My favorite part is the backdrop for the weddings and that the bride has selected me to be a part of her special day. I love to do the hair and makeup for the bride and their wedding party in some of the most beautiful locations which typically comes with an ocean view. I always feel invited in by the bride and her wedding party and that’s pretty cool!
C: What are three things you always have on-hand in case of a last minute emergency on a wedding day?
L: A sewing kit. Extra lipstick and gloss. Eyelash glue.
C: Wedding day or not, what are your tips for making makeup last all day long?
L: My first tip for long lasting makeup for any occasion is to use a moisturizer and primer before foundation. Secondly, it’s important to set your cream foundation with a powder of some kind, whether it be a translucent powder or powder foundation. Finally, always use a setting spray. I believe if you do these things and you’ll be good to go all night long!
C: What are some top wedding makeup trends to look out for in 2017?
L: There are so many pretty trends coming this year. Look out for messy braids; side braids and halo braids (as shown above). Also nude lips, minimalist face makeup with a pop of lip color, and no eyeliner… just really pretty soft eyes and long lashes.
C: Describe your personal philosophy on makeup in 15 words or less.
L: My personal philosophy on makeup is that it’s an art and a form of self expression. I don’t wear it for anyone but myself- if I look good I feel good.
C: Do you have a dream location that you’d like to travel to do a bride’s makeup? If so, why that location in particular?
L: I did hair and makeup in Nashville, TN for the Country Music Awards back in November. I’ve always loved Nashville and want to work on more weddings and events there in 2017!
C: Words of advice for other makeup artists both near and far?
L: My little piece of advice would be to use every social media platforms that is available to us because they are free and powerful. (Seriously, check out here social media… the videos she shares are ah-mazing! See more here.)
C: Go to Starbucks order?
L: Love this question. Ready? Ok, grande salted Carmel frappacino with java chips, chocolate and Carmel drizzle. No whip.
C: If you were cast on the Real Housewives, what would your intro tagline be?
L: My favorite question, “Oh look, all this makeup and no one to wear it for!” Said no women ever.
As if Lindsey isn’t accomplish enough, her work has been featured in numerous magazines like this article here and she is even nominated for Top Salon on the Emerald Coast. Her reputation is so apparent in her work… I wish she could help me get ready like everyday. She’s personable and professional and just an overall fun girl to spend time with! If you’re a soon-to-be Emerald Coast (or Nashville) bride, Lindsey is your girl!
I hope you all have a great Wednesday! Thank you so much for reading today.
